How we came to be
In 1987, the concept of the Subaquatic Safety Services (SSS) network emerged out of a critical need for hyperbaric medical assistance in remote diving locations. Following an incident where a diver suffered from decompression sickness without nearby treatment facilities, the idea was born to create a network of hyperbaric chambers staffed with trained professionals to provide 24/7 emergency care to recreational divers.

Over the next 15 years, SSS pioneered the establishment of hyperbaric chambers in key diving regions across the globe, including both coasts of Mexico, Thailand, the Caribbean (Bahamas), Central and South America (Belize, Galapagos), Papua New Guinea, and East Africa (Zanzibar). Today, SSS continues to serve as a lifeline for divers, ensuring they have access to rapid and essential treatment for decompression-related injuries, no matter how remote their location.
